Navajo leader thanks Kirkpatrick for sCHIP language

Navajo Nation Vice President Ben Shelly thanked members of the 111th Congress for including language regarding tribal citizenship documentation in the reauthorization of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, according to the president’s office.

SCHIP, a federal program administered jointly with the states to provide health insurance to low-income, uninsured children, is known as KidsCare in Arizona, New MexiKids in New Mexico and Utah CHIP in Utah.

Congressman Ben Ray Lujan co-sponsored the reauthorization and U.S. Senators Jeff Bingaman and Tom Udall and Representatives Ann Kirkpatrick, Martin Heinrich and Harry Teague voted in support of moving it forward.
