Yavapai-Apache leaders meet with AZ delegation

Camp Verde Bugle:

Throughout the week, Tribal Leaders met with Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick, Congressman Harry Mitchell, the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, as well as the offices of Congressman Trent Franks, Sen. John McCain, Sen. Jon Kyl, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, Congressman Jeff Flake, Congressman John Shadegg and Congressman Raul Grijalva.

As tribal leaders, it is our responsibility to make sure that our people have a sustainable future. As a tribe who owns and operates a gaming enterprise, we have moved a step closer to complete self-reliance; however that does not diminish the federal governments trust obligations to tribe. It is our job to make sure that our federal leaders and agencies continue to deliver upon those obligations. Rather than being lost in the transition of Administrations, we felt it was important to continue advocating for priority issues that impact the Yavapai-Apache Nation and our neighbors in the Verde Valley. When it comes to water we are all in this together. We look forward to our continued work with the entire Arizona delegation, which represents all of our states constituents and their respective issues and concerns, stated Chairman Beauty.
